This course is targeted to participants who are maintenance workers, construction workers or those in the maritime industry, a small minority are those seeking employment looking to upgrade their skill level to increase their employment opportunities.
The program provides participants with the skills and knowledge to perform advanced resuscitation in a range of situations that may include community and workplace settings and in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.
The program is delivered over six (6) hours and is comprised of theory and practical sessions. The program culminates with a practical assessment activity and theory assessment.
There is No minimum standard set as a prerequisite to entry this course. However, foundation skills are required (reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and learning.) Candidates must have the ability to verbalise a simple incident report.
Performance Assessment
The candidate will be required to demonstrate their practical skills integrated with their knowledge during practical assessment activities. These activities are dangers to self and others, response checks simulated call to 000 and performing air and breathing checks, the compression process and use of an AED. Trainers will challenge test candidates throughout the course on varying equipment and mark their practical checklist accordingly.
All candidates are required to take part in a practical scenario to complete the course. While working in pairs it allows the candidates to show competence to undertake the activity.
Written Theory Assessment
The candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete theory assessment comprising 43 short answer questions. These will be marked on the spot in order to provide the candidate with immediate feedback and to allow them to identify areas for further development.
This unit of competence has been drawn from the nationally endorsed HLT Health Training Package R5.0. On successfully completing the training and assessment, a Statement of Attainment (SoA) for the unit HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation will be issued. The unit of competency is nationally recognised and provides individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia.
The course will be delivered using different modes of delivery involving classroom based instruction and practical skills development sessions. Training will be coordinated from MIWT head office and delivered in your simulated work environment or at the MIWT training facility Warehouse 21 located at 57 Albert Road Moonah Tasmania.
Candidates will participate in facilitated learning sessions using PowerPoint presentations, handouts and discussion. During practical sessions, candidates will be asked to work in pairs to simulate an unconscious person for the purpose of recovery position and rotation of the compression process while using supplied equipment (adult manikins, infant manikins and AED’s). Participants will learn skills through practical instruction using demonstrated performance methods such as: Demonstration, explanation.
