Issue Permits

Description

MIWT’s nationally accredited Issue Work Permits training course is designed for personnel who may be required to issue confined space entry permits, hot work permits, work at height permits or other workplace specific work permits. This course covers all of the required information for personnel to select the most appropriate work permit, obtain all of the work information (from a JSA or Risk Assessment) and issue a permit to work. Training is particularly suited to the supervisors of confined space work, work at heights and hot work

Purpose

This course addresses the need for personnel who issue work permits to understand the permit system, know the limitations of each permit and make decisions regarding the need for and correct use of each permit. It covers the issuance of any and all permits. It applies to the issuing of permits covering a single plant or plant area such as might be an operators scope of responsibility.

Duration

The program is delivered over approximately eight (8) hours and is comprised of theory and practical sessions. The program culminates with a practical assessment activity and theory assessment.

Entry requirements

There is No minimum standard set as a prerequisite to entry this course. However, foundation skills are required (reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and learning.)

This course requires the participant to comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s confined space risk assessment, confined space entry permit, Hot work permits, Height safety permit and the oral/written knowledge assessment.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
Persons who take part in this refresher program require sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to read, comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s confined space risk assessment, confined space entry permit, Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) and the oral / written knowledge assessment.

Assessment requirement

Candidates must successfully complete all assessment activities in order to be assessed as competent.
The assessment for Issue Work Permits course is to be conducted using a combination of written theoretical assessment and practical assessment during simulated work based scenarios. The following assessment methods are to be applied to collect the required assessment evidence in accordance with training package requirements.

Performance Assessment
The candidate will be required to demonstrate their practical skills integrated with their knowledge during practical assessment activities.

Qualification

National recognition

These units of competence have been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package MSM – Manufacturing Training Package (Release 6.1). On successfully completing the training and assessment, a Statement of Attainment (SoA) for the units MSMWHS201 Conduct hazard analysis and MSMPER300 Issue work permits be issued. These units of competency are nationally recognised and provide individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia.

Delivery mode

The course will be delivered using different modes of delivery involving classroom based instruction and practical skills development sessions. Training will be coordinated from MIWT head office and delivered in a simulated work environment or at the MIWT training facility Warehouse 21 located at 57 Albert Road Moonah Tasmania.

Candidates will participate in facilitated learning sessions using PowerPoint presentations, handouts and discussion. During practical skills development sessions, candidates will be asked to work in pairs and facilitated through a range of scenarios for conducting risk assessments and issuing work permits. Candidates will learn skills through practical instruction using demonstrated performance methods such as: Demonstration, explanation.

Materials or equipment required

Clothing Requirements
Clients must wear covered shoes or work boots and work wear for the practical component of the training.
Where a client does not wear covered shoes or work boots and work wear they may not be able to participate in the practical component due to work health and safety concerns.
