These units of competency are targeted to participants who are telecommunication workers or workers in the wind tower industry where the worker is required to rescue injured personnel from telecommunication towers, wind turbines or electrical
The program is delivered over 11 hours including the prerequisite CPR where required and is comprised of theory and practical sessions. The program culminates with a practical assessment activity and theory assessment.
There is No minimum standard set as a prerequisite to entry this course. However, foundation skills are required (reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and learning.).
This course requires the participant to comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) and the oral/written knowledge assessment.
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
Persons who undertake this refresher program require sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to read, comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS), and the oral/written knowledge assessment
Candidates must successfully complete all assessment activities in order to assessed as competent.
The assessment for WAH course is to be conducted using a combination of written theoretical assessment and practical assessment during simulated workbased scenarios. The following assessment methods are to be applied to collect the required assessment evidence in accordance with training package requirements:

This unit of competence has been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package PUA Public Safety R3.0 On successfully completing the training and assessment, a Statement of Attainment (SoA) for the unit PUASAR032 Undertake vertical rescue, PUASAR022 Participate in a rescue operation and HLTAID010 Provide basic life support will be issued. These units of competency are nationally recognised and provide individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia.
The course will be delivered using different modes of delivery involving classroom-based instruction and practical skills development sessions. Training will be coordinated from MIWT head office and delivered in a simulated work environment or at the MIWT training facility Warehouse 21 located at 57 Albert Road Moonah Tasmania.
Candidates will participate in facilitated learning sessions using PowerPoint presentations, handouts and discussion. During practical sessions, candidates will be asked to work in pairs and facilitated through a range of practical skills using various height safety equipment. Participants will learn skills through practical instruction using demonstrated performance methods such as: Demonstration, explanation.
Elective Units
Clients must wear covered shoes or work boots and work wear for the practical component of the training.
Where a client does not wear covered shoes or work boots and work wear they may not be able to participate in the practical component due to work health and safety concerns.
