UETDRMP004 – Perform elevated work platform controlled descent escape gives you the skills to perform a safe escape from an elevated work platform. Learn the mandatory requirements for performing a self-rescue including inspecting and maintaining rescue equipment, as well as assessing any risks to yourself or others.
This practical unit is suitable as initial training or as a refresher course. During your studies you will access and secure rescue equipment to yourself and perform a controlled, safe descent to the ground from a raised EWP.
This competency unit covers the performance of controlled descent escape procedures from an Elevating Work Platform (EWP) in the work place. It specifies the mandatory requirements of self-rescue from a raised EWP and how they apply in the context of transmission, distribution or rail work functions.
The program is delivered over 6-7 hours and is comprised of theory and practical sessions. The program culminates with a practical assessment activity and theory assessment.
Pre-requisite Unit
UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
or
TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more)
This course requires the participant to comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s Risk Assessment/ Job Safety Analyses. and the oral/written knowledge assessment.

Persons who undertake this program require sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to read, comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s Risk assessment and the oral/written knowledge assessment.

National Recognition
This unit of competence has been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package UET – Transmission, Distribution and Rail Sector (Release 1.2). On successfully completing the training and assessment, a Statement of Attainment (SoA) for the unit UETDRMP004 – Perform elevated work platform controlled descent escape will be issued. The unit of competency is nationally recognised and provides individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia.
The course will be delivered using different modes of delivery involving classroom-based instruction and practical skills development sessions. Training will be coordinated from MIWT head office and delivered in a simulated work environment or at the MIWT training facility Warehouse 21 located at 57 Albert Road Moonah Tasmania.
Candidates will participate in facilitated learning sessions using handouts and discussion. During practical sessions, candidates will be asked to work in pairs and facilitated through a range of practical skills using various belay devices. Participants will learn skills through practical instruction using demonstrated performance methods such as: Demonstration, explanation.

Clients must wear covered shoes or work boots and work wear for the practical component of the training.
Where a client does not wear covered shoes or work boots and work wear they may not be able to participate in the practical component due to work health and safety concerns.
