EWP rescue

Description

Participants will be equipped with skills and knowledge to undertake rescue from an EWP.

As a result of this program, participants will be able to:

  • access, interpret and apply technical and safety information for tower rescue
  • assess hazards and risk associated with EWP rescue
  • select, inspect, donn, doff and caring for PPE
  • identify the most appropriate rescue systems for retrieval of the worker
  • perform simulated EWP rescue

Purpose

This unit of competency is targeted to participants who are maintenance workers, construction workers or those in the maritime industry where the worker are exposed to a risk of a fall from one level to another that is reasonably likely to cause injury to the worker.

Duration

The program is delivered over 4-6 hours and is comprised of theory and practical sessions. The program culminates with a practical assessment activity and theory assessment.

Entry requirements

There is No minimum standard set as a pre-entry this course. However, foundation skills are required (reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and learning.).

This course requires the participant to comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS) and the oral/written knowledge assessment.

Assessment requirement

The candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete theory assessment comprising 23 short answer & multiple-choice questions. These will be marked on the spot in order to provide the candidate with immediate feedback and to allow them to identify areas for further development.

Pre-requisite Unit
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
and
UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
or
TLILIC0005 Licence to operate a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more)
or
UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
Persons who undertake this refresher program require sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to read, comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT’s Safe Work Method Statement (SWMS), and the oral/written knowledge assessment.

Qualification

This unit of competence has been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package UET Transmission, Distribution and Rail Sector R1.0. On successfully completing the training and assessment, a Statement of Attainment (SoA) for the unit UETDRMP005 – Perform elevated work platform rescue will be issued. The unit of competency is nationally recognised and provides individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia.

Delivery mode

The course will be delivered using different modes of delivery involving classroom based instruction and practical skills development sessions. Training will be coordinated from MIWT head office and delivered in a simulated work environment or at the MIWT training facility Warehouse 21 located at 57 Albert Road Moonah Tasmania.

Candidates will participate in facilitated learning sessions using PowerPoint presentations, handouts and discussion. During practical sessions, candidates will be asked to work in pairs and facilitated through a range of practical skills using various height safety equipment. Participants will learn skills through practical instruction using demonstrated performance methods such as: Demonstration, explanation.

Materials or equipment required

Clients must wear covered shoes or work boots and work wear for the practical component of the training.

Where a client does not wear covered shoes or work boots and work wear they may not be able to participate in the practical component due to work health and safety concerns.
