The program provides participants with the skills and knowledge to identify an emergency situation and perform a simulated rescue of a victim of a low voltage incident.
As a result of this program, participants will be able to:
This training verifies the person’s knowledge and skills to prevent deterioration in a previously achieved standard of performance as a rescue person when work is being conducted on low voltage transmission poles
The program is delivered over four hours (4) for refresher training and 6 hours for initial delivery, the program is comprised of theory and practical sessions. The program culminates with a practical assessment activity and theory assessment.
Pre-requisite Unit
HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
and
UEECD0007 Apply work health and safety regulations, codes and practices in the workplace
or
UETDREL005 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus
or
UETDREL006 Work safely in the vicinity of live electrical apparatus as a non-electrical worker
There are no minimum standard set as a prerequisite to entry this course. However, foundation skills are required (reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and learning).
This course requires the participant to comprehend MIWT’s Risk Assessment, SWMS for the simulated pole top rescue, complete MIWT’s incident report form and complete the oral/written knowledge assessment.
Candidates must succefully complete all assessment activties in order to assessed as competent.
The assessment for Pole top rescue is to be conducted using a combination of written theoretical assessment and practical assessment during simulated workbased scenarios. The following assessment methods are to be applied to collect the required assessment evidence in accordance with training package requirements:
Performance Assessment
The candidate will be required to demonstrate their practical skills set integrated with their knowledge during practical assessment activities. These activities are sourced from varying equipment inspection, pre-operational site checks, equipment donning and doffing and also fault finding and reporting. Trainers will regularly challenge test candidates throughout the course on varying equipment and mark their practical checklist accordingly.
Written Theory Assessment
The candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete theory assessment comprising 14 short answer & multiple-choice questions. These will be marked on the spot in order to provide the candidate with immediate feedback and to allow them to identify areas for further development.
Participation in a Practical Scenario
All candidates are required to take part in a practical scenario to complete the course. The activity will be assessed using a holistic approach to enable participants to gain a better understanding of the varying roles and responsibilities
This unit of competence has been drawn from the nationally endorsed industry training package UET Transmission, Distribution and Rail Sector R1.0. On successfully completing the training and assessment, a Statement of Attainment (SoA) for the unit UETTDRMP006 Perform pole top rescue will be issued. The unit of competency is nationally recognised and provides individuals with a valuable qualification that can be applied throughout Australia
The course will be delivered using different modes of delivery involving classroom based instruction and practical skills development sessions. Training will be coordinated from MIWT head office and delivered in a simulated work environment or at the MIWT training facility Warehouse 21 located in Station Street Moonah Tasmania.
Candidates will participate in facilitated learning sessions using PowerPoint presentations, handouts and discussion. During practical sessions, candidates will be asked to work in pairs and facilitated through a range of practical skills using various height safety equipment. Participants will learn skills through practical instruction using demonstrated performance methods such as: Demonstration, explanation.
