Purpose:

This training provides participants with the skills and knowledge to perform atmospheric testing of confined spaces prior to any worker in, on or near a confined space.

Course Name:MSMWHS217 - Gas test atmospheres
Course Code:MSMWHS217
Course Duration:The program is delivered over approximately 4-6 hours and is comprised of theory and practical sessions. The program culminates with a practical assessment activity and theory assessment.
Training Plans: Gas Testing - $190.00
Description:

This training will equip the candidate with skills and knowledge to enable them to successfully gas test for atmospheric hazards.
• This training will enable the candidates to:
• Access, interpret and apply technical and safety information for gas atmosphere testing.
• Prepare equipment for gas testing (challenge test)
• Test the atmosphere for hazardous gas
• Record atmospheric results on permit
• Clean, maintain and store equipment

Assessment:

Candidates must successfully complete all assessment activities in order to be assessed as competent.
The assessment for gas testing is to be conducted using a combination of written theoretical assessment and practical assessment during simulated work-based scenarios. The following assessment methods are to be applied to collect the required assessment evidence in accordance with training package requirements.

Performance Assessment
The candidate will be required to demonstrate their practical skills integrated with their knowledge during practical assessment activities. These activities are sourced from varying equipment inspection, pre operational start up checks calibration, challenge testing, gas atmosphere ship board environments and reporting findings and faults. Trainers will regularly challenge test candidates throughout the course on the equipment and mark their practical checklist accordingly.
All candidates are required to take part in practical activities to complete the course.

Written Theory Assessment
The candidate will be required to satisfactorily complete a theory assessment comprising 27 short-answer questions. These will be marked on the spot in order to provide the candidate with immediate feedback and to allow them to identify areas for further development.

Entry Requirements:

There is No minimum standard set as a prerequisite to entry this course. However, foundation skills are required (reading, writing, oral communication, numeracy and learning.).
This course requires the participant to comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT risk assessment for the environment that requires atmosphere testing, gas atmosphere permit and the oral / written knowledge assessment.

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements
Participants who take part in this program require sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to read, comprehend and complete MIWT’s learning materials, i.e. MIWT risk assessment for the environment that requires atmosphere testing, gas atmosphere permit and the oral / written knowledge assessment.
